A Book and Jigsaw Puzzle to Save the World
One of our projects is ‘A Jigsaw To Save The World’. It will be both a book and a real jigsaw puzzle that people can enjoy at home or use in the classroom.
The book is based on a jigsaw puzzle. The completed picture on the front cover shows a future where people and nature are thriving together.
Each jigsaw piece represents an important part of creating that future. Pieces of the puzzle include things like:
- Clean energy from the sun and wind
- Better public transport
- Reforestation and rewilding
- Clean water
- Healthy oceans
- Growing local food
- Repairing and reusing things instead of throwing them away
- Farming in ways that protect the environment
- Meaningful work
- Safe communities
- and many more….
The corner pieces look at some of the bigger changes needed in society, such as how we make decisions and organise our communities. Three of the corner pieces will relate to how to update our political and economic systems to set us on the road to a sustainable, flourishing future. The last corner relates to us as human beings with values and the idea of care.
The book is positive and full of solutions. Each chapter will stay focused on the vision depicted on the front cover – the future we aspire to create.

We will launch the competition once the book is complete (expected 2027)
The competition
When the book is finished (expected in 2027), we will launch a free competition for people of all ages, including students, artists and graphic designers.
The challenge will be to design a jigsaw piece that represents one part of the story.
There will be prizes, and some of the winning designs may be included in the actual book or jigsaw puzzle, with the creator’s name credited.

Schools and universities
We especially encourage schools to enter. The competition is designed to help students explore climate and sustainability ideas through art and creativity, focusing on solutions and positive change rather than worrying problems. You can find out how schools and universities can get involved here.
AI policy
Green Stories aims to inspire sustainable practices so we will not accept images generated by AI (e.g. using Midjourney, DALL-E, Adobe Firefly, Canva’s Magic Media) because these are very energy intensive and harm the planet via their high carbon footprint and water usage.
You can use graphic design platforms. For example: Canva (except for magic media), Adobe Express, GIMP etc. as these use much less energy.
Or simply go old school and draw!
